Let me give you an example: Say you have a pretty large guy, and it takes about 2,500 calories for him to maintain his weight, and he wants to lose some weight he could cut a thousand calories out of his daily intake cut down to about 15 calories per day which is a reasonable amount of food, and he can pretty easily lose about two pounds a week now let's say his wife or his girlfriend wants to diet with him, she maintains her weight on 1,600 calories per day now she can't cut a thousand calories out it would cut her way down to low it's not safe to cut down below about 1,200 calories per day so if she goes from 1,600 to 1,200 she's only cutting out 400 calories a day whereas he was able to cut out a thousand at 400 calories a day deficit she'll be lucky if she loses about a half a pound per week so that's one of the main reasons that men lose more quickly than women do they're larger they have more lean mass they burn more calories during practice.
